This Fluid recorded the EP ‘spiral‘ in 1999 which was released the same year on Hitch-Hyke records. Even though it was planned as a precursor to the band’s second album ‘Lips like poppy’, it actually is a complete and independent work, especially in this edition that includes two bonus tracks which had been released on various compilations around that time.
‘Spiral’ ushered in a new period for This Fluid, not only due to the line up changes (Anna Maratou departed and Nikoleta Chatzopoulou (vocals, guitar) and Panagiotis Tsagas (bass) had joined the group), but also because club culture , generation X, and the expectation of the new millenium appeared to stir the band’s interest. Spyros Hytiris’ lyrics also offer an additional dynamic to the material. Spiral can be considered as the most extroverted This Fluid album. The combination of black humor with the era’s new sensitivity and the harshness of the sonics, creates an ephemeral, elusive world. A world that appears to be in flux and anarchy and yet conceals small, tender traps.
